Exploring Our World Together: Eisenhower Middle School Hosts Cultural Curriculum Night

A buzz of excitement could immediately be felt at Eisenhower Middle School, on Tuesday evening, April 21, as families arrived for the school’s Curriculum Cultural Night.
Laughter could be heard throughout the walls, and the scent of home-cooked dishes drifted down the corridors, as families and staff members celebrated traditions from around the world, including Kenya, Mexico, Myanmar, Italy, India, and more.

They prepared their favorite cuisines, which guests could sample as they visited the middle school.
The cafeteria served as the port of entry where each family received a stamp in their passports to help continue the theme of visiting exotic places from around the world.

According to Family and Community Engagement Specialist Andrea Tribit, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools requires each school to host at least two curriculum nights during the school year.
Tribit said she thought it would be fun to make the curriculum night more engaging. “What better way to incorporate family and community, with curriculum and culture?” she said.

In the large atrium of the school, different organizations set up booths for families to visit, including the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC), GEAR UP, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, the Native American Culture Center, and more.
Representatives from the Parent Teacher Organization were also in attendance, encouraging more families to get involved.

“My hope is that students will invite their parents and then the parents will become more involved. My dream is to see students, parents and the community merging together,” added
Tribbit.
The overall theme of the event: Explore how we’re all connected around the world.
